What GEO means here

GEO is the work of making your web presence easier to retrieve, verify and use as a source

Generative search systems can assemble answers from multiple pages and sources instead of presenting only a ranked list of links. GEO focuses on whether your useful information is technically accessible, clearly attributable, consistent, specific enough to add value, and visible in the answer-and-citation layer.

Our working definition: Generative Engine Optimization improves a brand's readiness to participate in AI-generated search experiences through strong SEO foundations, unique source content, clear entities and facts, reliable web signals, and measurable citation visibility.

That does not mean creating hundreds of “AI-ready” pages or adding speculative markup. For Google Search in particular, current official guidance says generative features still rely on core Search systems and do not require special GEO files, special schema, or an AI-specific writing style.

The visibility chain

AI search visibility starts long before an answer is generated

A strong GEO program works through the whole source path. If a page cannot be crawled, understood or selected as useful evidence, there is nothing to optimize at the final answer stage.

01

Accessible

Important pages can be crawled, indexed or otherwise reached by the search system that powers the generative experience.

02

Relevant

The page actually addresses the topic, entity, comparison or business question a user is exploring.

03

Verifiable

Claims, business facts, authorship and evidence are clear enough to cross-check instead of being vague or contradictory.

04

Useful as a source

The page contributes something specific—first-hand detail, clear explanation, data, examples, process or expertise—rather than repeating commodity copy.

05

Cited or discovered

Your page or brand may appear as a supporting source, reference, linked result or discovery path when the system generates an answer.

What a buyer may see

The buyer can meet your source before they visit your website

Generative search often answers a complex question while also exposing supporting links, citations or source references. That changes the evaluation moment: your page may need to earn trust as a source before it earns the click.

Brand facts Business name, services, locations, contact details and other public facts should not conflict across your own site and major public profiles.
Expert evidence Specific process detail, first-hand experience, named authorship and transparent sourcing give systems and people more to evaluate than generic claims.
Commercial clarity Service pages still need a clear offer, scope and next step after the answer layer sends a qualified visitor to the site.
Freshness where needed Facts that change should be maintained consistently; evergreen pages should not be rewritten merely to create artificial freshness.
GEO implementation

We improve the source system, not a fictional “AI ranking score”

The exact work depends on where visibility breaks: technical access, content usefulness, entity ambiguity, weak evidence, inconsistent public facts or limited measurement.

01

Visibility baseline

Map priority topics, brand/entity questions, current citations or mentions, important pages and the generative surfaces that matter to the business.

02

Access & indexability

Check whether important pages are technically eligible for discovery. Broader crawl/index problems can connect to technical SEO optimization.

03

Entity & fact consistency

Align brand names, services, people, locations and key business facts across important owned and public sources so the web footprint does not contradict itself.

04

Source-quality content

Improve pages that are generic, unsupported or unclear. Where new production is justified, this can connect to SEO content writing rather than mass-producing thin “AI pages.”

05

Structured clarity

Use semantic HTML and accurate structured data where it serves normal SEO and rich-result needs. Specialist implementation can connect to schema markup services; there is no special Google GEO schema.

06

Measure & iterate

Review citation/source visibility, generative-search impressions where platform tools expose them, referral traffic and commercial actions instead of reporting invented “LLM authority” numbers.

What the platforms actually say

Different generative systems expose different controls and measurements

There is no universal GEO switch. The practical job is to understand how each surface discovers public information, what controls site owners have, and what evidence the platform exposes.

Google Search

SEO foundations + generative reporting

Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode use core Search systems and require no special GEO markup or AI file. Pages still need to be eligible for Search and snippets. Search Console now provides dedicated generative AI performance reporting.

Bing / Copilot

Citations can be measured

Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance features expose citation activity and, in current preview features, topics, intents and citation share across supported Microsoft AI experiences. That gives GEO work a platform-native evidence source instead of guesswork.

ChatGPT search

Crawler access affects eligibility

OpenAI says public websites can appear in ChatGPT search and recommends allowing OAI-SearchBot so content can be discovered, surfaced and clearly cited. Inclusion and placement are not guaranteed.

What we do not sell as a shortcut: Google-specific `llms.txt` benefits, “AI schema,” microscopic content chunking, fabricated mentions, or guaranteed recommendations. Google currently says these are unnecessary or unsupported as special tactics for its generative Search features.

Evidence, not AI theatre

Measure visibility at the source, citation and business-action levels

Generative visibility is less stable than a single blue-link rank, and different systems may answer the same prompt differently. Reporting therefore needs several evidence types instead of one invented universal score.

Platform-native visibility Use Google Search Console generative AI views and Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance data where available.
Cited source pages Identify which URLs are actually being referenced and which topics or intents they support.
Referral and assisted actions Track AI-search referrals, enquiries and conversions when analytics can attribute them reliably.
Representative prompt sampling Use a documented question set to observe brand/source presence over time without presenting the sample as a guaranteed platform rank.

For broader dashboards and ongoing organic reporting outside the GEO scope, use SEO reporting & analytics.

Avoid AI-search cannibalization

GEO owns generative-search visibility; AEO owns direct-answer optimization

Both services can support the same website, but they should not compete for the same commercial query or repeat the same page.

Generative Engine Optimization

Use GEO when the business wants stronger brand/source participation across generated search experiences: discovery, grounding, citation visibility, entity clarity and measurement.

This page owns that intent.

Answer Engine Optimization

Use AEO when the primary problem is making content clearer for direct answers, concise question-led responses and answer-oriented retrieval.

Bangladesh business context

AI search can amplify inconsistent public business information

For Bangladesh companies serving local or international buyers, GEO often exposes an operational problem before it exposes a content problem: the public web tells several different versions of the business.

Keep names, services and contact facts consistent

Owned pages, major business profiles and relevant directories should not disagree about who you are, what you offer or how customers reach you.

Separate Bangla and English intent deliberately

Create language experiences because the audience needs them—not as near-duplicate pages designed only to capture prompt variations.

Publish details competitors cannot copy from generic knowledge

Real process, original examples, first-hand expertise, transparent scope and useful Bangladesh context give generative systems and buyers more specific source material.

Keep conversion useful after the citation

A citation is not the commercial outcome. Service scope, trust signals and contact paths still need to help a qualified visitor decide what to do next.

Common questions

Generative Engine Optimization FAQs

What is Generative Engine Optimization?

GEO is the work of improving how a brand and its web content can participate in generative search experiences. In practice, that means strengthening crawlability and source eligibility, content usefulness, entity and fact clarity, citation-worthy evidence and measurement.

Is GEO different from traditional SEO?

Yes, but it is built on top of many SEO foundations. Traditional SEO focuses heavily on search visibility and organic discovery. GEO adds attention to how content is retrieved, grounded, cited and represented inside generated answers. Google explicitly says its core SEO best practices remain relevant to generative Search.

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT, Google AI Mode or Copilot will cite my website?

No. No legitimate agency can guarantee a specific model response or recommendation. We can improve technical eligibility, content quality, source clarity and measurement, but selection remains controlled by each platform.

Do I need an llms.txt file for Google AI Overviews or AI Mode?

No. Google's current official guidance says Google Search does not use llms.txt as a special visibility or ranking mechanism for its generative Search features. Other services may develop their own conventions, so any such file should be evaluated for a specific system rather than sold as a universal GEO requirement.

Do I need special GEO schema markup?

No special Google GEO schema exists. Accurate structured data can still support normal Search features and clarify machine-readable facts when it matches visible page content, but it should not be presented as a guaranteed AI-citation tactic.

How do you measure GEO performance?

We combine platform-native generative-search reporting where available, cited-source visibility, representative prompt sampling, referral traffic and business actions. The goal is a transparent evidence trail rather than a proprietary score that cannot be verified.
