Local Keyword Research Guide for Bangladesh
Local keyword research in Bangladesh means finding the words people use when they want a product, service or business in a specific city or area, then grouping those searches by intent and mapping each useful cluster to the right page. The job is not to collect the biggest list. It is to find the local searches that match what the business actually sells and where it can genuinely serve customers.
What counts as a local keyword?
A local keyword shows that the searcher cares about place. Sometimes the place is written in the query, such as “AC repair Uttara.” Sometimes it is implied, as with “AC repair near me.” Google can also return local results for a category search such as “dentist” when the searcher’s location makes nearby businesses relevant.
That is why local keyword research is wider than adding “Bangladesh” or “Dhaka” to a service name. You are trying to understand the combination of what the customer needs, where they need it, and what type of result they expect to see.
| Pattern | Bangladesh example | Likely intent |
|---|---|---|
| Service + city | dentist in Dhaka | Find a provider in a city |
| Service + area | dentist Dhanmondi | Find a nearby provider in a smaller area |
| Service + near me | dentist near me | Immediate proximity-based discovery |
| Problem + place | AC not cooling repair Uttara | Solve a local problem |
| Product + place | office chair shop Mirpur | Find a product seller nearby |
| Question + local need | how much does AC servicing cost in Dhaka | Research before choosing a provider |
1. Define the real business footprint before opening a keyword tool
Start with the business, not the spreadsheet. Write down what the company sells, the jobs or products that matter most, where customers are actually served, and what a useful conversion looks like. A clinic may want appointments. A restaurant may want calls, directions and reservations. A service company may want qualified phone or WhatsApp enquiries.
This first step prevents one of the most common local SEO problems: researching dozens of cities that the business cannot realistically serve. Search demand is useful only when the business can satisfy it.
List your core services, secondary services, physical locations, genuine service areas, high-value customer problems and the actions you want visitors to take.
2. Build seed keywords from products, services and customer language
A seed keyword is the plain-language starting point for discovery. For an air-conditioning company, seeds might include “AC repair,” “AC servicing,” “AC installation” and “AC gas refill.” For a dental practice, seeds might include “dentist,” “dental clinic,” “teeth cleaning,” “root canal” and “dental implant.”
Do not begin by forcing locations into everything. First make sure the service list is complete and uses words customers understand. Internal industry terms are useful only if people actually search them.
Good seed sources include sales calls, WhatsApp questions, enquiry emails, service menus, product categories, customer support notes and the language staff hear from customers every day.
3. Expand seeds with city, area and neighborhood modifiers
Now combine relevant seeds with the locations the business truly serves. For a Dhaka business, that could mean a city-level phrase and a smaller set of important areas where customer demand and service coverage are real. For a business in Chattogram, Sylhet, Rajshahi or another city, use the same logic rather than copying a Dhaka list.
Useful patterns include:
- service + city;
- service + neighborhood or commercial area;
- city + service;
- service + “near me”;
- service + “open now” where that genuinely matters;
- problem + location;
- product/category + location;
- price, cost or comparison query + location.
Do not turn every combination into a page. At this stage you are collecting possibilities, not deciding site architecture.
4. Use autocomplete and live search results to discover real phrasing
Google autocomplete is useful for finding how people complete a search. Google says its predictions are influenced by real searches as well as factors such as language, location, trending interest and previous searches. That makes autocomplete useful for idea discovery, but it is not a search-volume report.
Test your seeds from the market you care about and record meaningful variants. Then search the strongest terms and look at the result type. Does Google show a local pack, standard organic pages, product results, directories, guides or a mix? The result page tells you a lot about the intent Google is trying to satisfy.
Research tip: A phrase appearing in autocomplete is a clue, not permission to create a page. Validate the business value, the local relevance and the search-result intent before mapping it to content.
5. Validate city and local terms with Google Keyword Planner
Google Keyword Planner can generate keyword ideas and show estimated monthly searches. For local research, its location controls are especially useful because you can narrow ideas by countries, regions and cities instead of relying on a global number.
Use the location setting that matches the decision you are making. If you are researching a Dhaka-only service page, Bangladesh-wide volume can hide the local picture. If the city-level data is too sparse, widen the geography carefully and treat the number as directional rather than exact.
Volume is not the only filter. A low-volume phrase can still be valuable if it describes an expensive service and matches a strong buying intent. A high-volume term can be a poor target if the business does not provide what the searcher expects.
6. Mine Search Console for the local queries your site already earns
If the site already receives organic impressions, Google Search Console can reveal useful query data that third-party tools may miss. The Performance report lets you review queries and compare them with pages, countries, devices and dates.
Look for three kinds of opportunities:
- unexpected local terms: queries containing an area or service wording you did not originally target;
- high-impression, low-click terms: searches where the page appears but the result may not match intent strongly enough;
- page overlap: several URLs receiving impressions for the same local cluster, which can signal weak page ownership.
Search Console reports only queries for your own property, so use it to improve an existing keyword map rather than as your only discovery source.
7. Use Google Trends for direction, seasonality and regional interest
Google Trends is useful when you want to compare wording, see interest over time or inspect relative interest by region. It also shows related searches. The values are relative, not absolute search volumes, so do not treat a Trends score as the number of monthly searches.
For Bangladesh, Trends can help you compare two ways of describing the same need or check whether demand changes during certain seasons. If a term has too little data to produce a useful graph, widen the time period or compare broader wording rather than assuming nobody searches it.
8. Test English, Bangla and transliterated variants instead of guessing
Bangladesh businesses may encounter searches written in English, Bangla or mixed/transliterated wording. Do not create separate pages merely because the spelling changes. Put the variants into the research set, check whether they show meaningful demand or the same search results, and group them when the intent is the same.
For example, a local service might be searched as “AC service Uttara,” “AC servicing Uttara” or a Bangla-script version. If Google treats them as the same need, one strong service/location page is usually a better owner than several near-duplicate pages.
9. Classify search intent before you choose a target page
Keyword research becomes useful only when each cluster has a job. A local business query may belong to a service page, location page, product/category page, comparison article or informational guide. Search the term and study the dominant result type before deciding.
| Intent | Example | Best page type |
|---|---|---|
| Local transactional | AC repair Uttara | Relevant service/location landing page |
| Commercial research | best office chair shop Dhaka | Strong category/location page or useful comparison content, depending on the SERP |
| Informational | AC servicing cost in Dhaka | Guide or pricing explainer that supports the service page |
| Proximity | coffee shop near me | Accurate local business presence plus relevant website page; not a doorway “near me” page |
| Navigational | brand name + location | Brand/location information customers can verify easily |
10. Cluster keywords and give one dominant intent one primary URL
This is where a keyword list becomes an SEO plan. Group phrases that mean the same thing and appear to deserve the same type of page. Then select one primary URL owner for the cluster.
For a hypothetical dental business, “dentist in Dhanmondi,” “Dhanmondi dentist” and “dental clinic Dhanmondi” may belong to one local cluster if the search results and business offer align. You do not need three pages. A separate “root canal Dhanmondi” page would make sense only if the service has enough distinct intent and content value to deserve its own page.
This one-intent/one-owner rule matters because near-duplicate pages can compete with each other and create a poor user experience. It also keeps this guide separate from our keyword research service: this article teaches the method, while the service page owns done-for-you commercial keyword research.
How to handle “near me” keywords
“Near me” phrases are important to research, but they should not automatically become literal page titles such as “Dentist Near Me” or “Plumber Near Me.” Google says local results consider distance from the searcher as well as relevance and prominence. That means the searcher’s location is part of the result even when the query does not name a city.
Use near-me terms to understand proximity intent. Then strengthen the real signals that support that intent: a relevant page, accurate business information, genuine service coverage and a strong local presence. For the Maps side of that work, see our Google Maps ranking guide for Bangladesh. For the wider signal set, see local SEO ranking factors in Bangladesh.
How to prioritize a local keyword list
You do not need a complicated scoring formula. A practical review can answer five questions for every cluster:
- Business fit: do we actually sell this service or product?
- Location fit: can we genuinely serve the place implied by the query?
- Intent: is the searcher likely to take an action that matters to the business?
- Evidence: do Keyword Planner, Search Console, autocomplete, Trends or the SERP give us a reason to keep the term?
- Page ownership: is there already a strong URL for this intent, or does a new page have a clear job?
Search volume can help compare opportunities, but business relevance and intent should stop you from chasing impressive numbers that will never generate the right enquiry.
Turn the research into a keyword map
The final deliverable should be easier to use than the raw keyword export. For each cluster, record the primary topic, important variants, search intent, target location, recommended URL, page type and priority. Add notes when two pages might overlap.
| Cluster | Primary page owner | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| AC repair + Uttara variants | Existing relevant service/location page | Improve one page rather than build spelling duplicates |
| AC servicing cost + Dhaka questions | Cost/guide article | Answer research intent and link to the commercial service page |
| AC repair near me | Core local service page + business profile signals | Track the query; do not create a doorway “near me” page |
Use competitors to find gaps, not to copy their site
Competitor pages can reveal services, questions and locations you may have missed. Compare the businesses that repeatedly appear for your real target searches and note the topics their pages cover. Then decide whether those topics fit your customers and your business.
Do not copy a competitor’s keyword list or reproduce every location page they have. Their service area, authority, brand and page history are different. When competitor research becomes a wider project involving content, backlinks and ranking gaps, our SEO competitor analysis page covers that separate commercial intent.
Common local keyword research mistakes
- Using Bangladesh-wide volume for a neighborhood decision: match the research geography to the page you are planning.
- Making one page per keyword: cluster synonyms and variants by intent.
- Creating doorway city pages: only build location pages that have genuine business and user value.
- Ignoring the live SERP: tools cannot tell you everything about the result type and intent.
- Assuming autocomplete equals high volume: use it for discovery, then validate.
- Chasing “near me” literally: proximity intent is not solved by stuffing “near me” into headings.
- Keeping every keyword a tool exports: remove irrelevant, duplicate and impossible-to-serve terms.
- Ignoring existing rankings: Search Console may show that the best opportunity is improving an existing page.
- Forgetting cannibalization: assign one dominant intent to one primary URL owner.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best free tools for local keyword research in Bangladesh?
Start with Google Search and autocomplete, Google Keyword Planner, Google Search Console if the site already has data, and Google Trends. Each tool answers a different question, so use them together instead of treating one export as the final strategy.
Should I make a separate page for every city or area keyword?
No. Create a page only when the location has genuine business relevance, distinct user value and enough content to deserve its own URL. Near-duplicate city pages can create poor UX and keyword cannibalization.
Do I need to put “near me” in my page title?
Usually not. Research the phrase because it reveals proximity intent, but optimize the page for the real service and location. Google’s local results also use the searcher’s distance, so literal “near me” wording is not a substitute for local relevance.
Should I target Bangla or English keywords?
Test both where they are relevant to your audience. Keep the variants that show evidence of demand or meaningful search results, then group equivalent phrases when they share the same intent. Do not build duplicate pages just for script or spelling differences.
Is a low-volume local keyword worth targeting?
It can be. A very specific local search may represent strong buying intent even if the estimated volume is small. Judge it by business value, location fit, intent and the page opportunity—not volume alone.
How often should local keyword research be updated?
Review the keyword map when services, locations, competitors or customer behavior change, and use Search Console data regularly to catch new queries and page overlap. A full rebuild is not necessary every month if the business and market are stable.
